It was a cold winter’s day when the hardy and frankly plain stupid, teed off at Little Lakes for the Pershore Golf Society’s annual Xmas medal event. The 19 brave Xmas turkeys battled against the freezing temperatures and a course that stood up remarkably well to the rigours of the winter so far. Everyone was briefed efficiently and effectively by the incoming Captain/Chairman/Cleaner and away we went.

All were keen (and given the temperatures maybe a bit deperate) to put themselves on the board for the Angel Cup and some early Champion of Champion points.  “El Bandito” was one of the early favourites, having won the event last year, but was soon off the leader board, having quaffed a little too much Sangria over the Xmas period.  Scoring was generally tightly packed though there were a couple of notable high scores, but the Captain/Chairman/bottle-washer didn’t let his new responsibilities drag him into the Xmas pud, putting up a fine performance to come in 3rd with a net 72.  But good performances by Keith Taylor, with a net 68 and knocking the stuffing out of that with a handicap-busting net 67 was Vic Hammond the winner of the Xmas package.

The Captain/Chairman/administrative-assistant also featured well in the best gross competition, carding the lowest gross of the day. The longest drive and nearest the pin were won by Mark Chatterly, I’m sure Mrs Chatterly will love that. Best stableford outside the top 3 was won by Rob Davies, whose 35 stableford points were good reward for a Xmas spent in abstinence of alcohol and cigarettes (believe that you’ll believe anything). Wrapping up the prizes was the best guest, won by Rob Slater, a guy who has swept the board over here in the last year or so and is now off to Oz to try and win a few prizes over there.

Next event will be at the The Rolls of Monmouth on the 27th February – keep an eye out for the invitations 2-3 weeks ahead of that date, amongst your many Valentines day cards!! Before that there will be a meeting at the Angel Inn to draw the singles and doubles matches, all are welcome to attend. Thanks to all for your support and particularly to those who helped to organise the day out. Have a great year lads and lets support our Captain and enjoy what promises to be another competitive and entertaining season.
