Date: Saturday September 4th

Venue: Bewdley Pines Golf Club

Weather: Sunny very little wind (except from the usual sources)

The assembled masses totalled fourteen for the final medal day of the season. All keen to either qualify for the Angel Cup, impress Captain Matt for a place in the Ryder Cup, or both.

Another new venue and another jewel uncovered around Bewdley. The short yardage (which our chairman attempted to shorten further by nearly teeing off from the ladies tee on one occasion! belied the potential for disaster and the big timber that was hit was mainly in the form of the trees on the course not the driver which stayed in the bag on many holes.  It was an asset having a guide or previous experience around here.

The course held few fears for John Vincent who blitzed his way to a magnificent net 64, leading home the ever consistent Les Stallard, net 67 (despite a moan about unreceptive greens, whatever that means to us high handicappers)  and the ever inconsistent Miles, net 69, despite a disastrous mid-round collapse which yielded 16SHOTS on holes 9 and 10.

The “unreceptive greens” failed to prevent Les from winning nearest the pin; however the remarkable feat of the day goes to Dave Adams, followed up the longest flight of the day, landing from Brazil in the morning, with longest drive.

Well done again Dave on uncovering another great little course on the doorstep. Everybody I spoke to would happily re-visit this venue. We will meet again at one of the forthcoming events – The Ryder Cup, Angel Cup or Par 3 Ch’ship.

Until then keep swinging, but only in the golfing parlance
