November 14th 2009 - Nailcote Hall

Despite strong winds and plenty of overnight rain 24 members and guests gathered for the last event of the year. Nailcote Hall hosts the British Par Three championship. This was no pitch and putt with plenty of steep bunkers and water.

The shot gun start and exclusive use of the course gave opportunity for plenty of banter and the usual micky taking. Not least with the Chairman who played in his dance shoes. There was a 50% handicap allowance and Miles Dixon with a net 59 won the day closely followed by Les Stallard and Tim Kilby. The two nearest the pins went to Dave Adams (lucky bounce off a tree) and John Vincent. There were five guests and the winner here was Sam Marshall.

The overall highlight of the day was Pete Dodd getting a skilful hole in one on the 9th which as it was “first time round” did not win the nearest the Pin! Fair play to Pete who stood the first round – a big thank you from us all. It is likely that Gerry Hibbert will be prosecuted by Network Rail for four times peppering the Coventry Inter-city as it sped past.

The end of year bash then carried on at the Angel with the formal presentation of the years trophies followed by liquid support of a number of hostelries in the Town. A great day had by all and it is very possible this will become the format for future seasons.
