SOCIETY DAY – WOODLAKE PARK – Saturday 12 JUNE
What a fantastic day! 17 players including three guests descended on this brilliant course near Usk. The weather, scenery and condition of the course was excellent. It is a known fact that putting on this course is never easy but in truth the only Green that gave cause for annoyance and dismay was the one in Goal in Rustenburg. Woodlake also served up another first with our hard working fixtures secretary becoming emotionally attached to his hire trolley – “ It was only a £1 and had amazing straps” – Dave, we are all so pleased it made your day! It has been very noticeable that our handicap secretary only seems able to push handicaps down. Therefore in the light of his triumphant round (net 72) we all wait with bated breath to see how much he cuts himself. Well done Vic, a great performance. Second was Matt Sailes (clearly the administrative responsibility of Captaincy is not weighing him down) and Kevin Lloyd was a deserving third. Best Stapleford outside the top three was Andy Price so another Angel Cup place is secured.
Chris Jolley was best guest and nearest the Pin was Ian “lucky bounce” Brazier. As regards the longest drive we were told Ray Izod came up trumps (beating Ian’s drive), but in view of him not completing the marker card a fine will have to be paid if he wishes to claim his prize!! It was good to be back to a traditional medal day with a meal for the “suited and booted” eaten whilst we enjoyed? the football. At this point the need to remind the Chairman to wear a tie and for a certain member to wear a jacket, shirt and tie, otherwise those fines will keep growing.
A big thank you to the Club for a great day, wholesome scram and for making us all so very welcome. Please note that we do have some surplus kit for sale, including the much sought after suit carriers, so please call Matt to make your purchases.
