years signature event was held at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort
To save comparisons with the 2010 victorious European Ryder Cup team we played the Roman Course rather than the higher profile 2010 Course.
19 members were joined by three guests to compete for important Angel Cup places as well as the new Neville Green Trophy. The conditions were generally good but mistakes were punished with most bunkers visited and the number of three puts (over 80) on the greens illustrated the difficulty.
A whole raft of scores were returned and for some members the recent handicap cuts had a brutal affect.
Russ “Stellios” Byrd was nearest the pin on a tricky 15th green and Matt Sailes (at least his driver was working) won longest drive on the 5th. Keeping it in the family the best guest was Ross Sailes.
Our medal winner was Mike Ciric with a flawless net 69 with Chris Jolley second with a net 73. On count-back Les Stallard (net 74) secured third place but he was more delighted to be reunited with his muddy old golf shoes which had spent the previous month in a Pershore Garage. The best stableford outside the top three was Dave Podmore and he also secures an Angel Cup place.
Special thanks are due to Dave Adams for organising this event and in truth for a small society we were very well looked after by this large Celtic Manor machine. Please bear in mind if you do visit this venue do not expect to pay Brandy Cask prices!!!
Our next event is the Doubles Day at Little Lakes on 16 April..
