23 members and 5 guests gathered at The Vale for the first event of 2011. This was originally scheduled for the Christmas / New Year break but the heavy snows intervened. That said it was a cold and frosty morning and we were on winter greens which in terms of pitching and putting did at times make the golf a lottery. Needless to say, pitch repair markers were not required.

Various items of head wear were used to keep the cold at bay but Phil Wilson won the prize (and was suitably fined) for looking like the Artful Dodger!! The temperatures caused one of Simon Hainesís balls (golf) to split and young Lee Ford (Moggys lad) needs to learn to pack a few jumpers next time.

The golf was competitive and a whole raft of different scores was produced. The victor was Russ Byrd who is clearly benefiting from less Corporate Golf events with a net 70. On count back Andy Price pipped Pete Dodd into second place. Mike Andrews celebrated his return to the Society with the best Stableford score outside the top three with a very credible 38 points and so secures his place in this years Angel Cup.

A slim-line Beefy (new nick name required) won the longest drive whilst Viv Hammond was deadly accurate on the 5th to win nearest the pin. Congratulations go to John Whitehead who scooped the best guest prize.

Our next event is at the Wrag Barn near Swindon on 25 February.
