Angel Cup – Woodlake Park
Weather - Glorious Autumnal
What a turn out! Was it to support “killers” last event as captain? Was it because the venue was a last hurrah from fixture sec Dave? Or did we simply want to glorify/commiserate with our Welsh hosts suffering watching the rugby world cup. Anyway a field of 32, made up of Qualifiers, members and guests turned out at the season finale down the A449 at Usk. If you can keep your chin up during the round the poor golf can be compensated with magnificent views.
A wonderful, challenging course with each hole offering something different with Autumnal shades and claggy rough making any wayward drive tough to find and the greens proving harder to read than Chinese writing.
The main beneficiary of the challenging greens was the Captains charity as the three putts mounted, the other beneficiary was Nev, who picked his way sensibly around the course to card a highly respectable net 72 to win the Angel Cup, beating Dave Podmore (74) into second place and Pete Dodd (79) into third. So the bulk of us commiserated ourselves with scores in the 80s or 90s. Pity Ray Izod who was savaged by the course to record a net 110!
Long drive was won by Matt Sailes on his welcome return to society golf and nearest the pin was won by Andy Price.
So Captain Kilby wandered off into the sunset with his fines bag bulging, and Dave steps up to take over, we also welcome our new captain of vice Ian and our new fixture secretary John.
We shall meet again on November 26th with a potentially fun filled day consisting of the par 3 championship followed by a fun filled charity quiz being hosted by Milo and Steve at the newly refurbished Pershore Sports Club (raffle prize donations welcome) We look forward to seeing you there.
