Tewkesbury Park - Winter Special
23 Members and guest turned out at
Tewkesbury Park for this yearís winter special, we may have to rename
this fixture in the future as it turned out to be warmer and sunnier
than some of our summer medal days!
At first glance the course didnít appear
to offer too much to worry about, rough not to rough, no leaves on the
trees and plenty of space if you happened to miss the odd fairway or
two... or three! But that was before we found what can only be described
as very unforgiving pin positions. Missing greens or finishing the wrong
side of the hole was going to cost you and judging by the money raised
in the fines department and some of the scores it certainly did!
So after the bacon rolls and coffee had been polished off, we eagerly
awaited our captains Dave 'I'm here
all week' Adams stand up routine before setting off on what we hoped
would be a fantastic day of golf in the sunshine.
At the end of the day Andy Price finished
in top spot with a very creditable net 71 followed by Martin Ford with a
net 73 & Chris Jolley in third with a net 75. The best
stableford outside the top 3 was Kevin Lloyd.
Les (big boy) Stallard won the longest drive of the day with John
Vincent winning the nearest the pin. As both these pros only use top
quality balls, you will probably now find some PGS balls going cheap on ebay! John Whitehead won the best guest (net 74) and walked away proudly
with his new PGS boot bag.....hopefully someone put a joining form
inside along with the bag tag?
Our next event is the
first medal day of the year, the Founders Trophy, which this year takes
place at Royal Porthcawl on Friday 30th March.
is widely regarded as the best course in Wales, within the top 30
courses in the UK and within the world top 100 courses, so hopefully we
will see as many of you there as possible.
