Tewkesbury Park - 22nd February
Winter Special

As curtains were opened on the morning of our Winter Special, players immediately logged on to Google to enquire what the big orange circle was in the sky. Having got used to many months of grey clouds and rain, everyone arrived shielding their eyes from the brightness which was not helped when Ron revealed his new gleaming golf shoes causing a few of the locals to be carted off to Tewkesbury medical centre with acute sun-blindness.

With the ravages of the winter still apparent and the surrounds of the course surrounded by enough water to keep Noah in a constant state of arousal, trolleys were not allowed resulting in a number of members ferreting around in their garages trying to find carry bags. It would be unusual for Roy not to be mentioned when it comes to matters of style and, with the help of John, he resembled a slightly inappropriate older member of One Direction with his retro Dunlop bag that was last carried by Neil Coles when winning the Colgate Masters in 1972.

Captainís brief was delayed whilst we waited for Kevin who encouraged by the sunís appearance, finally turned up looking as though he was just about to have two weeks in Tenerife but after words of encouragement from our Captain we were away.

Despite the recent weather and the views of water everywhere, the course was surprisingly dry and the greens true and quick. Not that Chris Jolley would have known as he decided to dispense with the use of his putter by holing his 170 yard third shot on the first for a magnificent eagle.

After this tremendous start it was no surprise that Chris went on to win the day but he was pushed hard by Andy Owen who continued his impressive start to the season with a second place, followed by Erle,  all three players securing their early qualification for this yearís Angel Cup.

After a winter all golfers would like to forget,  I think for everybody it was just good to get out and play again. Congratulations to Chris and hope to see everybody at our next event, The Founders Trophy at Enville.

1st - Chris Jolley
2nd - Andy Owen
3rd - Erle Andrews
Best stableford - John Vincent
