Neville Green Plate - Medal Day
The 18th May was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning and the venue for
the 2nd Medal of the season was The Worcestershire Golf Club in
Malvern. 28 of Pershore Golf Societies’ finest members and guests turned up to
contest the prestigious ‘Neville Green’ Plate. Most were disappointed to find
that the kitchen was closed and there was no opportunity to get the customary
pre match injection of cholesterol, or caffeine in the shape of a cup of coffee!
we all assembled on the upstairs balcony, the usual fancy dress competition
began with Pete Jolly’s sock and sandal combo just edging Milo’s Jimmy Krankie
lookalike into third place with the honors going to Ian Brazier in the most
ridiculous pair of shorts ever seen on a golf course.
on the course, the dry sunny whether meant that
the fairways were in great condition, although the
greens were a bit fluffy.. someone described them as
putting on bubble wrap, that may have been the reason
for some fairly high scoring.
Having said that, there was one player that had spent
an awful lot of time practicing on the course and it
clearly paid dividends. That person came in the not
insignificant form of our winner Mike Ciric, playing an
absolutely stunning round of gross 77 giving a net 67.
In second came our proud Captain on his home course
with a net 72, and rounding off the ‘Malvern Mafia’
dominated podium was Tony Poyner with a net 75.
Best Stapleford was Alan Hadley and the best guest was
was an exceptional day for the Captain’s charity (£171) with donations from the
Malvern members as well as the dodgy greens yielding plenty of 3 putts.
